The First Need XLE is a portable water purifier - yes, a purifier, not a filter. It removes not only sediment and bacteria, as most filters do it also removes viruses, using Structured Matrix chemical-free purification technology. This makes it an excellent choice for use in areas with highly suspect water quality, whether in the wilderness or in developing countries where the quality of the public water supply is poor. The bottom of the First Need's canister attaches directly to many types of popular containers (such as Nalgene bottles and hydration packs) and the purifier can be set up in a gravity-feed configuration so you can spend less time pumping. The double-action pump is field-serviceable, but the purification canister itself is sealed and must be replaced at the end of its useful life, which is announced by a built-in indicator.
